Tenel Dorsey, born and raised in the city of Pittsburgh's hill district where she began her talented journey. She started doing hair at age 9 and was able to sing from the day she was born. She attended McKelvey and Vann elementary schools. Her natural talents lead her to attend Rogers middle school for the creative and performing arts where her talents and creative abilities took flight. In her words, attending Rogers and Capa gave her the freedom to explore her creativity without a cap! Along with having her faith anchored at an early age, she was a member of Bethel AME Church, (Hill District) Second Baptist (Homestead) and today, she and her children, Dallas (18) and Melajia (27) are active partners at Greater Destiny World Outreach. Tenel is a loving mother and she takes great pride into showing her children the entrepreneurial ropes and also making sure they understand the importance of education. She enjoys parenting and doesn't take her job as a mother for granted.

Being blessed with natural money making strategies, Tenel gained the courage to blaze a trail to start her own business at age 22. Go Divas Hair Salon and Ms Diva's supplies on the north side in 2001 and after 2 years, she relocated her empire back to Homestead. She lived in Homestead in 1993 and attended Steel Valley High School. Historical Homestead has always welcomed Tenel, her crafts and ideas with open arms and till this day, Dreamz Hair Salon and Barber Shop is still thriving and because of this community, it's one of the top Salon/Barbers shops in our region. 

While Dreamz Hair Salon offers a wide variety of services from my natural hair, haircut, barbering, coloring, etc. Tenel specializes in wigs and hair replacement, and she obtained her NPI to accept health insurance for clients battling hair loss. She’s serviced hundreds of women who have battled cancer, alopecia, psoriasis that lead to hair loss issues! 
This all led her to develop her own hair care products to help rejuvenate hair follicles which helps with the regrowth process! 
Dreamz Hair Restoration was birthed in 2016 and is a nationally known and used product!

Tenel is the sole proprietress of Dreamz however, she's built a whole team of 13 that was brought together to master the art of delivering the newest innovative styles and techniques, build self esteem from behind their chairs, and empower women/individuals in our communities. Tenel's mission has always been to serve and she does just that! She's been awarded a community service award from Park Place AME in 2014, she was featured on the front cover of the Soul Pitt Magazine for women in business for more than a decade, was awarded a community love award from the 2014 Bella Awards.

She won the stylist/salon of the year award at the Flashing Lights hair show in 2009 and was presented an award from Mayor Bill Peduto on behalf of the Stop the violence Pittsburgh movement for outstanding work in our communities along with the Women Of Excellence Award in 2016, just to name a few. Although Tenel's most prominent talents are her leadership and entrepreneurial skills, her heart, authenticity and ability to give, outweighs any titles, awards or acknowledgements.

The Dreamz Foundation

Since always having a heart for Community, Tenel also has a philanthropic side and decided to also start a nonprofit called The Dreamz Foundation. 

While Tenel grew up on the hill district, she was able to benefit from a community structure and with having that experience lead her to pour back and do the same. She impacts Community by telling her story to speak with the youth at schools throughout our region including middle schools, high schools, colleges in beauty schools! 

Tenel sits on the Board of Directors for a group home called A Dream House and she also does a six week program in her business that allows youth to shadow stylist and learn what it takes to start a business, they learn about personal hygiene, and before they leave, they are taught how to write a check!

H.E.R. Organization

H.E.R. Heal Evolve Restore has been the focus and commitment toward the inward responsibility for female clients and community! 

We focus on the mental and emotional health of women in our region, because we understand that dolling someone up and doing their hair to make them feel better on the outside is one thing however, there is always that internal that also needs attention. We’ve created an organization that shines the light on the inside as well.

 
We’ve put in place a directory to recommend therapist and resources for those in need of them! 
We also do H.E.R. wellness retreats to create a safe space for women to relax and reset! 
When having these retreats, we always have a mental health professional, private chef for the entire weekend, and exercises that help with stabilizing mental and emotional health.

The Dreamz Art Gallery

The latest and the greatest is the art gallery displayed in our brick and mortar for 1-3 month rotation as well as displayed on our website! 
We’ve created space for local artists to display their art, and if someone purchases, all the funds go directly to the artist! 
Our vision is to reshape how we think about physical space, client experience, creative genius and the monetization of talents within our community! 

This vision is in direct alignment with our mission to encourage the circulation of black dollars and support small businesses.
